Midlife crisis - Nearly everyone has them at one time or another. Here is a typical scenario that may be familiar to you. You are in your 40s or 50s and you realized that you have fallen off the treadmill of life in a lot of aspects. Your career has basically flat lined, you have accumulated huge debt and you are in horrible physical shape. It seems that you are becoming exceedingly curmudgeonly. Life for you is a series of boring routines and nothing really makes you happy anymore.
One day you wake up and you realize that you have lived half your life. You wonder where the happiness in your life has gone as you endeavor to find it again. You find yourself struggling to manage your finances and your house, and providing for your kids while trying to make your marriage work. You just want to scream, "Help I'm having a midlife crisis!" Additionally, many setbacks occur on ones life cycle that are the catalyst for great unhappiness. Illness, deaths, divorces, out of control children, children with challenges, lack of intimate relationships. Fortunately human beings have the ability to adapt to life's challenges. If you are in control of your life.
Unlike our parent's generation, we no longer can depend on job security from our employers. How depressing is that. In many of cases, you can't even depend on a cost of living raise anymore. Many companies pay bonuses (have you read the news about what Goldman Sachs paid in 2006?), but that is a situation that is out of your control. And if your bonus is not what you anticipated, it is easy to get depressed.
If you consider changing jobs, it would be advisable to keep the mistakes of the past in mind when looking for work. Do you want more responsibility, flexible hours, a potential for a higher salary and bonus or possibly a closer commute. Even if you do find another job, remember that once you stop working, your salary stops. Now might be the time to consider a way to earn yourself a passive residual income with a direct marketing company - Warren Buffett recently invested heavily in a MLM and some believe that it is the fastest growing sector of home based businesses. Wouldn't it be nice to be your own boss for a change.
Humans experiencing stress need to take inventory of the spiritual and material gifts that they possess. Everyone is blessed with many gifts that are often overlooked or taken for granted. So if you think you have a miserable life, do a little soul searching. Adjust your attitude and begin to enrich your life by making changes that you can control. The YWCA and most likely your community will offer many things that can create new challenges in your life. And don't fight it, just do it and you will see that simple things can help bring you around. Enroll in a watercolor class, ride bicycle, help a senior citizen, volunteer at the dog shelter, jump on a trampoline. Almost anything new that you add to your day will change your old routine. That is the key - your life will not become routine if you keep adding pleasurable events. Any chances are, it will be an uplifting experience for you. It is the nature of creativity to stimulate the soul. It is in the soul of man to control his destiny.
